Meet Miclécia: Making sure everything connects

Miclécia Nascimento has been part of Vard Promar since 2014, working behind the scenes to keep operations running smoothly. As Lead Purchaser and Inventory Coordinator, she ensures that every department has the equipment, supplies, and services they need — connecting all the pieces that keep the shipyard moving forward.

It’s a job that demands precision, communication, and a deep understanding of how everything connects - and it’s exactly where she thrives.

Learned by doing

- I started by supporting the purchase of equipment for the PLSV (Pipelay Support Vessel), she says and continues: - Over time, I took on new responsibilities - gas carriers, shipyard procurement, international trade. And during a period of downsizing, I also stepped in to manage the warehouse. Today, I’m responsible for both procurement and inventory.

Miclécia holds a degree in Business Administration, an MBA in Project Management, and has completed all coursework for a Master’s in Business Administration - with just the final thesis left. But learning, for her, is just as much about the practical side. One of her most impactful development opportunities at VARD came when she was entrusted with foreign trade responsibilities - a field she had always been curious about. - I learned by doing, and it turned out to be a great experience.

The value of understanding

What she enjoys most about her role is the contact it gives her across departments. - I like understanding what people need and why. It helps me learn, but it also gives me a wider view of how the whole shipyard works.

One moment she remembers with pride is visiting the completed EP-09 PLSV vessel Skandi Olinda, built in Promar and delivered to TEC-DOF - a project she was closely involved in.

- Seeing the equipment I purchased fully installed on board was incredible. It’s fulfilling to see your work materialize like that.

Working across cultures

Working in an international company has also added an extra dimension to her job. - It’s very enriching. I’ve worked with people from different cultures - Italians, Norwegians, Romanians — and that’s helped me grow, especially in dealing with international suppliers. Each culture has its own way of working, and learning to navigate that is essential.

Family

It’s a place where you grow

Outside of work, she spends as much time as she can with her daughters, and when she needs to disconnect, she turns to reading. - I’ll read just about anything - the story just has to grab my attention.

If Miclécia had to describe VARD in one word, she’d choose knowledge

- I’ve learned so much here - worked with different teams, developed skills I never imagined. It’s a place where you grow.

- Be curious

Her advice for anyone considering a career in the maritime industry or at VARD?

- Take advantage of every opportunity, be curious, and dive deep into what you do. The knowledge and experience you gain here are worth it.
